Why it matters for buyers
Bulgaria joined the euro area on 1 January 2026, and the BNB now reports in euro. New mortgages still cost less than 2.5% a year, while credit grows by about a quarter a year. Cheap and fast-growing credit supports demand and prices, so buyers should compare not only the rate but also the total cost and the fixed-rate period.
Housing loans now make up about 59% of all household loans in the country. For the August figures, see our earlier analysis.
