Romanian household loans in lei grew 9.2% in a year, while foreign-currency loans shrank 12%

Loans to Romanian households in lei reached 204,978 million lei at the end of September 2026, 9.2% more than a year earlier, according to the National Bank of Romania (BNR). Household loans in foreign currency fell 12.2% to 13,836 million lei.

Romania's construction output jumped 39% a year in August, the fastest rise in the EU

Construction output in Romania was 39.0% higher in August 2026 than a year earlier, the largest annual increase among EU countries, according to Eurostat data published on 20 October.
