The figures come from the CBC release on interest rates of monetary financial institutions. The bank notes that the average housing rate can move from month to month because the mix of loans changes, for example between primary homes and holiday homes.

Close to the euro area

On outstanding household loans, the Cypriot rate of about 3.9% was marginally below the euro area median of 4.0% in September, the CBC said.

Why it matters for buyers

A lower average rate and more new lending suggest that credit for home purchases remains available. Buyers should still compare offers from several banks, because the average hides big differences between fixed and variable loans. For the August data, see our earlier report.
